One Small Typo — A Big Difference!

As I was reading about King David in the Bible the other day, I read that thousands of troops were defecting from their armies to join his. It was quite exciting—loyal, brave warriors equipped and experienced in battle; some were described as having faces of lions and being swift as gazelles!

But because of the lateness of the hour I thought I read that the armies were  d e f e c a t i n g  instead of defecting.

Instead of soldiers leaving the enemy's army and showing up to fight for the new king in his righteous cause, I imagined they were taking care of their "personal business" in the trees. That mental picture was seriously distracting!

Imagine how disturbing it would be if the story had actually been published that way. A one-letter problem can definitely take away from the point of your story!
